Wow, people standing outside at 7:30 waiting to come in; by the time the proper music kicked off at 8:00 the Elgar Suit at The Abbey Hotel already had about one hundred folk in.
As they settled in, meeting friends and starting the rounds of drinks the general music being played in the background by Steve Lloyd was more a mix of foottappers than dancers, 'get em in the mood' was Steve's thinking.
Once the warm-up act was chucked off the stage up stepped Don Palmer, good solid Motown & Northern favourites, so by 9:00 the dance floor was full and Don finally got round to playing Voices Of East Harlem's Cashin' In, bit of a standing joke with the locals but some people had been placing bet's on how many times he would play it, bit forgetful is our Don at times, but the main thing is that people still enjoy dancing to this record.
Following on from Don, John Farrell stepped up and played a solid set. We're still trying to persuade John to get his Reggae Collection and get them dancing, maybe we'll leave that for a different venue!
Rob Hurcomb followed with more floor fillers, classic Soul in all its forms all the way.
Too finish off the last two hours Steve & Don joined each other at the deck's, Don mostly playing British release Northern and Steve moving the crowd towards the more Modern stuff. This left Rob & John to finish off and with the dance floor still jumping at 12:45 it took some time for the crowd to realize that it was time to go.
Fun, laughs and lot's of dancing was had by all and we look forward to seeing you all again next time.
